The local stage
The official Saint-Romain-en-Gal / Vienne–Sablons stage is 33 kilometres long. It combines roughly 25 kilometres of cycle path with 8 kilometres on roads, so it is not a completely traffic-free greenway.
The route follows the Rhône between Roman heritage, terraced vineyards, natural habitats and the valley’s first orchards. Its official page provides the track and current notices to check before leaving.
Choose your ride
Ride the complete stage, choose a shorter section or make the area part of a multi-day journey. The official planner is the best tool for matching distance to your group and locating cycle services.
Villa 61 is on the opposite bank from parts of the route. Because access over the suspension bridge has changed during works, always check the latest local routing instead of relying on a remembered crossing.
Stops along the Rhône
Vienne and Saint-Romain-en-Gal make a rewarding heritage stop to the north. Southwards, vineyard terraces accompany the river towards the side channels and observation hides of Île du Beurre, before the landscape opens out towards Sablons.
Before you set off
Check the live track and diversions, the weather, water supplies and your bicycle. If rail is part of the plan, review the current regional train rules too: bicycle carriage can vary by service, equipment and season.
